Trent Harmon, the winner of the fifteenth and final season
of American Idol, attributed his victory to “God’s will.”
Harmon, who worked on his family’s farm and in his family’s
restaurant in Mississippi, wowed judges Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez, and Harry
Connick, Jr. with his voice. He also stole the hearts of fans, ultimately going
on to win the show’s final season and take his place among previous American
Idol winners such as Carrie Underwood and Jordin Sparks.
Christian Today reports that when Harmon was announced as
the winner, he
collapsed on stage.
"I haven't been able to breathe in almost a year. I
feel like in that moment, I got to decompress for the first time in almost a year,"
he said.
After regaining his composure and standing back up, Harmon
hugged his competitor, La’Porsha Renae and told her, “It’s God’s will.”
“Trent just whispered in my ear, 'You know, this is what God
wants. God has something really special for you. You won with me, too,
baby,'" Renae told USA Today.
Both Harmon and Renae ended up being offered record deals
from Scott Borchetta, the show’s mentor and record executive.
"I love them
both. They're both great," said Borchetta.
Harmon identifies as a Christian and often references God
and his faith in social media posts.
